As long as you're connected to Wi-Fi and a power source and your screen is locked, your photos, text messages, apps, and everything in-between gets safely stored to your iCloud account.But if those three criteria aren't met and your iPhone ends up getting lost, stolen, or broken, then you're left with an outdated iCloud backup that might not contain all of your latest media, data, and settings.That's why you should manually update your iPhone — but not by connecting it to your computer and using iTunes because no one has time for that. Instead, do it all directly through your iPhone. Backing Up from Your iPhoneBegin by going to Settings, tapping your name up top, then "iCloud." Next, scroll down and tap on "iCloud Backup." At the bottom, you'll see the date of your last iCloud backup, as well as the option to "Back Up Now." Depending on the quantity and size of the files you have on your device, it might take some to finish. You can also choose to cancel the backup at any time if the process is taking too long and you need to use your iPhone. Once the process is finished, you will see you latest backup and the time it finished, which you should remember for whenever you have to restore it at a later time.

Restoring a Backup from Your iPhoneRestoring an iCloud backup isn't as straightforward as backing it up — there is no "Restore" button anywhere in the settings. So instead, what we have to do is reset the entire device. Obviously, you'll only want to do this if you're getting a new iPhone, you just obtained a used one and are resetting it, or you want to start with a "clean slate" but still want your apps, pictures, etc.Do this by going to "General" in Settings, and tap "Reset." You'll then see several different reset options, but you only need to select "Erase All Content and Settings." Enter your lock screen passcode (twice if needed), hit "Erase iPhone," and enter your iCloud password to finish the process if you have Find My iPhone enabled. Your iPhone will then go through the process of wiping all of your media, data, and settings, then boot back up like a brand new device. Connect to Wi-Fi, tap on "Restore from iCloud Backup" when prompted, and enter your Apple ID and password to continue. You'll see your past backups listed — tap on the latest one, which should be the one you most-recently created. After selecting it, your iPhone will begin the restoration process. When finished, you'll be asked to enter your iCloud information in order to update your settings, as well as set up Apple Pay. Smart App Protector is a free app developed by SPsoft. The app lets you to lock individual apps using a password, pattern or gesture. It has a whole bunch of other features as well, a bunch.

Using Smart App ProtectorOpen up the application and you will be taken to a default password screen. Enter in the default password (7777) to access the app. First, make sure to enable the application by either enabling it in the settings, or hitting the red dot on the home screen. When enabled, the dot will turn from red to green. Now you will want to set up your lock type. You can access this by selecting the key icon in the top panel. Then choose between the different locks and enter in your code. Now that you have the initial setup completed, you can begin adding apps.

Adding ApplicationsTo add an app, hit the Add button in the bottom left corner and begin adding applications from the list. Now when the app is launched, an error message will appear and the app will remain dormant.NOTE: If you long hold the OK button, you can gain access to your passcode and access the app that way. This type of "lock" is better for people looking to avoid suspicion. Having a lock code on an app may carry the question, "Why is this app locked?" But with the fake error message, most people will just assume there is something wrong with the app and leave it be. Very slick indeed.

Other FeaturesWhen I said this application is loaded, I wasn't lying. Other than locking applications you can also add apps to the Screen list. Apps added to this list will automatically keep the screen ON. Similarly, apps added to the Rotation list will NOT auto-rotate when opened, unless of course the app can only run in landscape mode.You can add Multiple Passwords for different apps, making your apps even more difficult to access. You can also enable Observer, a feature that uses the front facing camera to discreetly snap a picture of the snooper. You can also use the Smart App Protector as your default lock screen. How To: Install Nova Launcher on Your Samsung Galaxy Gear for a More Standard Android Look

When it comes to the user interface, you're pretty much limited to the stock one that comes on your Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch—a carousel of large black and white icons representing the features and applications on the watch.In the world of Android devices, this doesn't seem right, considering you can pretty much customize the UI however you want on most devices. You could install something like Nova Launcher on your Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and get a whole new home screen.Well, you can actually get a new look on your Galaxy Gear, only it's not as simple as just installing a third-party launcher on an Android phone or tablet and setting it as the default. But it isn't really hard, either, and in today's softModder guide, I'm going to show you how to do it.
Step 1: Set Up ADB on Your ComputerFor this guide, we'll be using Nova Launcher, since I mentioned it earlier. Nova Launcher isn't available on the Galaxy Gear, so you'll need to use Android Debug Bridge (ADB) to sideload it onto the watch.For instructions, check out our softModder guide to installing and setting up the ADB utility on your computer for help.

Step 2: Install the Samsung DriverSince the Galaxy Gear is run by Samsung, you'll need to have the appropriate software installed on your computer. Download, unzip, and install this Samsung Driver onto your Windows PC. Image via wonderhowto.com

Step 3: Enable USB Debugging on Your GearIn order to connect the Gear to your computer, you'll need to enable USB Debugging on the device. To do so, go to Settings on your Gear, then Gear info and make sure USB debug is checked. Image via wonderhowto.com

Step 4: Test the ConnectionIn order to test if your Galaxy Gear is connected with ADB, first connect your Gear (via USB) to your computer. Next, open up a Command Prompt and type in the following, followed by the Enter key.adb reboot If your watch reboots and CMD looks like it does in the picture below, then you're fine. Image via wonderhowto.com If your Gear doesn't reboot, either your watch is not USB debugged, or ADB is not properly installed.

Step 5: Download the Nova Launcher APKLike I previously said, Nova Launcher isn't available in the Gear Store, so you'll need to download the Nova Launcher APK file onto your computer.You can find it on the internet (pro tip: type in "Nova Launcher apk" into Google)—if not, try this direct download link. Once it's downloaded, rename it to something easy, like nova.apk (this will come in handy in the next step).

Step 6: Use CMD to Install Nova LauncherNow, place the Nova Launcher file on your desktop to make the process easier. Right-click on it, tap on Properties, and copy the Location, which should be something like:C:\Users\username\Desktop Now, open a Command Prompt and type in the following command, with the copied location pasted and the Nova Launcher file name at the end, and hit the Enter key.adb install C:\Users\username\Desktop\nova.apk At first, it may not seem like anything happens, but that's just the application downloading onto the Gear. Once it's done, it should say Success.

Step 7: Use Nova LauncherFrom the application drawer on your Gear, you should now see a color icon for Nova Launcher. Tap on it and you'll be given the option to either have this as your stock launcher (Always) or for just this specific time (Just once). Now you'll see that your Gear has a whole new setup, with multiple small icons on each page. If you swipe to the side, you'll have several pages to fill up with any applications you've downloaded. Note: The Google search bar doesn't work, as the device doesn't come with internal internet capabilities.If you tap on the circle at the bottom of the screen, it will take you to where you can add applications and widgets to your home screen. Note: None of the widgets work, but if you download them you can potentially use them.If you tap on the three-dot menu, you can then go to Nova Settings to mess with things like the launcher size, icon size and color, icon placement, and more. Overall, a much better launcher than the stock one, giving it more of that Android feel. If you know of any other launchers that work with the Galaxy Gear, let us know below.

As this generation continues to evolve, we become more involved with social media. For example, you may have a Facebook, Twitter, and a Google+ account, and be heavily involved in using all three, but the constant switching between sites, logins, and conversations can get very tedious.Luckily, there's a way to put all of these accounts into one beautiful, fluid interface that keeps you aware of what's going on in all of your new feeds, while providing some exciting new tools to make the social media experience even better.Behold, Hootsuite. This program started a while back, but had some competition with another company called Seesmic that they later bought out. Since then, Hootsuite has changed quite a bit. Most changes were for the better, but they also ditched their desktop applications and stuck with a mobile and web-only interface. Today, we are going to change that.
Setting Up HootsuiteBefore we begin, know that Hootsuite offers three plans.Free - Allows up to three social media accounts Pro - Allows up to 100 Enterprise - For business or government agencies Three social media accounts is more than enough for me, but if you're a heavy user on a large amount of websites, $9 a month could help you manage up to 100.Now that we understand the plans, let's move on.

Step 1: Sign Up for HootsuiteGo to Hootsuite's website and sign up for an account. The process only requires that you sign in with one of your social media accounts. If you're signing in with an account not on that list (Twitter, Facebook, Google+), click the option right below the three buttons to "create a new account."

Step 2: Customize Your HootsuiteOnce signed in, you can continue to add accounts as you please. I would highly advise that you take the virtual tour to understand the complexity of this program. It's simple once you know it, but you can get lost if you don't. The tour will teach you how you can begin customizing your Streams. Clicking on buttons such as Wall Posts will add them to your stream. Then you can create tabs and customize each stream with difference accounts or different information.You can also schedule posts to be made on a certain date and time, which is a great way to queue multiple items, like linking out to blog posts. Or, add extensions for more social media networks by clicking on App Directory. For more help on the features included with Hootsuite (which some of you might need if you skipped over the virtual tour), check out Hootsuite's help page.

Step 3: Install FluidFluid is an application that allows you to make real Mac apps using a webpage. You won't have to go back to Hootsuite.com and sign in using a web browser, since we are going to make the website into an application we can run off of our desktop.You can download Fluid here (click the "Free Download" button). Once downloaded, unzip the file, move to your Applications folder, and open it up.

Step 4: Set Up Your Hootsuite Mac AppWhen Fluid opens, insert "Hootsuite" into the Name field, make sure your "Applications" folder is selected for the Location, and for the Icon, just "Use Website Favicon." Lastly, make sure "https://hootsuite.com/dashboard" is in the URL field. After you hit the Create button, hit Launch Now to open it right up. Now, Hootsuite is a fully functional Mac OS X app that you can launch without the need of a web browser!
