Twitter 101: How to Block Tweets with Certain Words from Appearing on Your Feed
Twitter can be a wonderful place for people to express their emotions and chat with each other in a short format. However, it can also be a breeding ground for hateful comments, foul language, and a whole lot of political talk.If you're tired of seeing these things on Twitter, you'll be glad to know that you can block certain words from appearing on your feed. Not only will this feature block the words themselves, but it will even prevent entire tweets from appearing if they contain one of your keywords. Doing this will definitely help improve your overall Twitter experience, so I'll show you how it works below.Don't Miss: How to Get Verified on Twitter — Even if You're Not a Celebrity

Step 1: Access Twitter's Notification SettingsFirst up, you'll need to access your Twitter app's notifications settings. If you're using an iPhone, tap the bell icon at the bottom of your screen to do that. Next, tap the gear icon at the top-right corner of your screen to pull up the settings screen for your notifications. If you're using an Android phone or tablet, you can get to Twitter's notification settings by tapping the bell icon just the same, but it will be towards the top of your screen. From there, press the gear icon in the bottom-right corner. Accessing Twitter's notification settings on iPhone (left) and on Android (right).

Step 2: Find the 'Muted Words' MenuNext, select "Muted" if you're on an iPhone (Android users can skip this part). Then, regardless of what kind of device you're using, select "Muted Words," which will open a new page on your phone.

Step 3: Block Tweets That Contain Certain WordsNow it's time to add keywords that will be filtered out of your Twitter feed. To do that, tap "Add" on an iPhone, or hit the "+" button on Android. Both of these buttons will be found in the bottom-right corner. From here, you'll need to type in a word that you'd like to block. This can range from one word to a phrase, a username, or a hashtag. However, you do have to type these keywords in one at a time. Once you've entered a keyword, you'll have a chance to adjust the blocking options. By default, tweets that contain your muted word, hashtag, username, or phrase will be indefinitely blocked from appearing in your timeline or notifications, regardless of who tweeted the message. However, you can decide where you want to mute these words from and how long you want them muted for by adjusting the options provided on the "Add muted word" screen. These options can also be accessed by tapping on the word once it's on your Muted list. Once you've adjusted the mute options to your liking, make sure to tap the "Save" button at the top of the screen to make your changes take effect. After that, you can repeat this same process for any other keywords you'd like to block. And that's it! You'll never again have to see the internet take those covfefe jokes too far or see a certain president claim that the media is selling us fake news. Obviously, use this for whatever you want to mute, but I know I'll be enjoying Twitter a lot more without all of the political memes.Don't Miss: Should Trump Get in Trouble for Blocking the Haters & Losers on Twitter?
